What’s the Wisdom Tooth Removal Process Like?
The process starts with a thorough consultation at our Anaheim dental office. We'll take X-rays to see the position of your wisdom teeth and determine whether extraction is necessary, and what type of extraction we’ll be performing.
Wisdom tooth extraction is typically performed under local anesthesia, and in some cases, sedation may be used to ensure you’re completely comfortable. Depending on whether the tooth is fully erupted or impacted, the procedure can be a simple extraction or a surgical extraction. Once the tooth is removed, we’ll provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to help you heal smoothly. This might include some food restrictions as well as prescribed medication.
What Is the Recovery Like?
Most of our patients recover within 3 to 5 days after wisdom tooth removal. Some swelling, tenderness, and mild discomfort, is normal and can be managed with ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers. We’ll give you detailed instructions for rest, diet, and hygiene during your recovery period.
Stick to soft foods like smoothies, mashed potatoes, and soups for the first couple of days. Avoid straws, smoking, or vigorous rinsing to prevent complications like dry socket.
